Blue Mountains Destination Management Plan

Did you know that the Blue Mountains has one of the greatest concentrations of eucalypt diversity on earth? Connecting the region from the lower mountains to the peaks and beyond, the Eucalypts are what make the mountains blue and are core to the identity of the place, people and culture. Like in a Eucalyptus tree, all systems of the region are interconnected, and when they work together, they are strong, resilient and rise above the canopy.

It’s not often you get to work with a community so heavily invested in the World Heritage Brand and caring for their place in partnership with the local indigenous community. Working with TRC Tourism, I was privileged to lead the development of this DMP in partnership with Blue Mountains City Council. This plan was about building stewardship for the region, aligned with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council’s (GSTC) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We had the privilege of working with the community to establish a set of core values they could agree to work from as they navigated the path of developing a tourism plan that is responsive, evolving and resilient.

It's out for public consultation soon - we look forward to seeing how it goes.
